NAIROBI, Saturday, April 5th, 2025 — In a warm and inspiring evening hosted at a Nairobi hotel, the Professional Criminologists Association of Kenya (PCAK) brought together esteemed members, family, and friends to honour a group of outstanding public servants for their dedication and professional excellence.
The highlight of the event was the recognition of Mr. Nicholas Makokha, Deputy Commandant General of the National Youth Service (NYS), who was celebrated for his recent promotion. The ceremony was graced by Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Njuki Mwaniki, MGH, CBS, Chairman of the NYS Council, who delivered a compelling keynote address emphasizing the critical responsibilities that come with higher ranks. “With higher ranks come higher expectations. Lead with courage, fairness, and justice,” he advised.
Other honourees included Mr. Lazarus Opicho (S/AIG, Commandant SGB & VIP Protection Unit), Ms. Brightet Kanyai (AIG, DCI Kenya Airports), and Dr. David K. Muthondeki (CP, National Leadership Academy). A special mention was made of Chief Inspector Isaac Muhia, recognized for becoming the first African to earn a Gold Medal for MA Journalism and Mass Communication from Central University, Punjab, India.
PCAK founding chairman, Mr. Munene Mugambi, praised the officers for their integrity and teamwork. “Your promotions reflect not just your effort but the values we hold dear in public service — dedication, professionalism, and perseverance,” he said.
The event featured speeches from notable leaders in the fields of criminology and security, including Commissioner Kenwillians Nyakomitah of IPOA and Dr. Aruna Varsan, CEO of Together for Better Foundation. Their words echoed the evening’s theme: honouring excellence, leadership, and justice.
In a heartfelt show of solidarity, members of the NYS Alumni Association extended their warm congratulations to Mr. Makokha, wishing him continued good health and tremendous success in all his future endeavors. Their message served as a reminder of the powerful bonds formed through service and the deep respect Mr. Makokha commands within the NYS community.
Ultimately, the PCAK dinner was more than a celebration of promotions — it was a testament to the role of criminologists in building a just society. As these officers assume their new roles, PCAK reaffirmed its confidence in their commitment to uphold justice with integrity.
